With a Bachelor of Science in Organismal Biology and Anatomy from Yale University, a Master's degree, and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from SUNY Stony Brook, Daniel has a solid educational foundation.

His research focuses on limb use and locomotor biomechanics in primates, exploring form-function relationships, selection pressures on animal design, bone and muscle biology, and human health.

Daniel Schmitt's lab conducts studies on animal locomotion and osteoarthritis, with projects on gait analysis, energetics of motion, stability during human running, and bone-muscle interactions.

He has received grants from NSF and NIH and published in reputable journals like Science and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Aside from teaching human anatomy in the School of Medicine, anthropology, physiology, and biomechanics, Daniel also serves on various university and medical school committees.
