I was always proud of my dad for many reasons. Mostly being a human being who is a mensch, good hearted, incredibly smart and intelligent, witty and g-d, what a sense a humor. And I was proud of the fact he went to Colombia University, as did my uncle, numerous other family members and many family friends. I have yet to discuss with my dad Colombia’s (and the professors) biased and hypocritical approach to the current war (step right up and read all about it!-https://lnkd.in/dHjp2FcX, https://lnkd.in/dN6KnBmD), but I for one, am no longer proud of the Colombia University reference on his resume.
Following Jewish life on US campuses for years now, I wasn’t blind to the rise in Antisemitism in disguise of Anti Zionism. Starting out small but growing in intensity over the years (especially during operations Israel was forced into) the numbers grew exponentially. From 1 out of 3 students personally experiencing or witnessing antisemitism only a decade ago, the numbers in 2023 suggested that 60% of Jewish students encountered antisemitism and 80+% over the last few days. What happened in Colombia, Cornell, Harvard and other universities and colleges that caused the numbers to spike over the years? Yes, antisemitism in large is at an historic level (as presented by FBI director in the video below), but what contributed to the alarming numbers?
Easy. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. The Universities didn’t speak out or aggressively suppress the growing phenomenon in its infancy and allowed professors to actively speak out against Israel and incite hatred to such a degree, that the monster is now too big to kill, and they are too scared to do anything about it. To me there is no difference between universities inaction and many other (antisemitic) phenomenon’s that have “grown” on us and our bound to explode. For example:
- Being tolerant to Palestinian Authority glorifying terrorists in school textbooks.
*European countries transferring taxpayers’ money to mosques where Sheikh’s speak antisemitic rhetoric on a regular basis (Wake up UK….). *Countries not doing enough to assure antisemitic, history changing narrative resolutions are NOT passed in the totally biased and useless United Nations Human Rights Council.
Going full circle now. I am also proud of my dad for being a CalTech alumni. For years I have been hearing ongoing stories about his life in the Pasadena based institution and apparently, for good reason. Look carefully Ivy league schools at CalTech’s firm stance against not only the atrocities, but against the demonstrations as well. THIS, dear Colombia, is how your approach to antisemitism SHOULD have been……
Do NOT remain silent. Be active and speak (write) out against ALL forms of Antisemitism.

Four days have passed since the inhuman, brutal attack against Israel and it civilians. Not that I had any illusions regarding the Hamas, but I am still baffled at the degree of cruelty that was portrayed in many, many videos shared on social media. Personally, I could not watch the horrific sights and I understand all those that feel the same way. No human eye can (or should) truly bear sights of murdering, lynching, raping, beating, taking hostages and even actions of brutality that are much lower in degree. During a roots trip I took with my dad to Slovakia a few years back, we visited the small train station where my grandma’s sisters (and possibly parents) have been transported to Auschwitz. Just the presence itself in a place of sheer evil, caused us to walk out of the train station within minutes.
But please take a deep breath and watch some of the video's posted by others on the net. Not because I am interested in testing your tolerance, but because I am trying to make a point. My point is that the difference between what is happening in the last few days and what has been happening over the last 75 years, is only the tragic, heartbreaking outcome. Every cycle of missiles, every attempt to penetrate our borders, individuals acting alone to attempt to stab, any firing from vehicles, any attempt to throw (“just a”) rock or Molotov bottle and so forth Israel has experienced over the years, was with the desire to reach the same outcome. Kill Jews for being Jews. And those who committed or support these acts (including via demonstrations as seen in the demonstration held yesterday in Sydney) are, let’s call it by its name, terrorists.
We will retaliate and we will win in the way we ought to win, eliminate the problem from its source for good. The next time you watch any “tension” occurring in Israel on TV, remember that we are simply trying to live our lives and to fulfill what Elie Weisel spoke about time and time again and eliminate potential suffering and humiliation. And do not forget another saying by Elie Wiesel:
“In any society, fanatics who hate don’t only hate me—they hate you, too. They hate everybody.”
