This is the anatomy of a blood libel. The hands of the world media and governments are not only stained by it, but also played an active role in creating it.

On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike hit the al-Taba’een school complex in Gaza because Israeli intelligence determined that Hamas terrorists had usurped a mosque in the complex as an active command room.

Within 30 minutes, Hamas propaganda claimed that over 100 people, many women and children, were killed. Never mind that it can take days to determine death tolls in countries outside war zones with sophisticated public services; perhaps some skepticism was warranted about casualty numbers circulated by the newly-christened “Gaza Civil Defence Agency” (i.e., another Orwellian Hamas organ) within minutes of an attack that allegedly caused a building collapse and raging fire.

But true to form, world media and governments immediately began parroting the blatantly false Hamas narrative. As always, it began with the inner circle of barely-disguised terror mouthpieces in the media (e.g., Al Jazeera and The Palestine Chronicle) and foreign countries (Iran, Lebanon, and Qatar) screaming about “massacres” and “genocides,” but quickly rippled outwards in self-reinforcing concentric circles to the merely anti-Israel media (BBC, CNN, NYTimes) and governments (Australia, EU). Even Vice President Harris felt compelled to weigh in on supposed civilian casualties. Terrorist lies and exaggerations now had the imprimatur of legitimacy.

The alphabet soup of United Nations terror apologists condemned the supposed targeting of schools. But where was their outrage that their schools were used as terror bases, even as civilians sought refuge? The world ignores that the protection under the laws of war for schools and places of worship is surrendered if used for military purposes.

Faced with this cascade of misinformation, Israel publicly released detailed intelligence on the strike. It published bios for 31 terror operatives eliminated in the strike. Not just some made-up number – actual identities. And it described the precision munitions used, and released before-and-after pictures of the site to show that the Hamas propaganda about casualties and damage was patently false.

Belatedly, the mainstream media began pulling back on their breaking-news stories. Death tolls were reduced or now described as “claimed.” Hamas’ failure to distinguish between civilian and terrorist casualties was acknowledged.

All depressingly familiar as it has happened with regularity since October 7 – see, e.g., the embarrassing backpedaling when it was proved an Islamic Jihad rocket, not an Israeli bomb, killed hundreds at the Al-Ahli hospital in October.

But as always, it is all too little, too late. Yet another blood libel against the Jewish state took flight because of all-too-ready eagerness to uncritically accept false claims from a terror organization that celebrates the murder and rape of Israelis.

The State Department definition of anti-Semitism includes, “Applying double standards by requiring of [Israel] a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation.”

Just IMAGINE the reaction…

If Marvel turned “Black Panther” into “Panther” to address the sensibilities of the Charlottesville crew rather than stripping superhero Sabra of her Israeli identity

If David Duke was featured in an Adidas ad for retro shoes commemorating the 1936 Berlin/Jesse Owens Olympics rather than virulently anti-Israel Bella Hadid for the 1972 Munich Olympics

If protesters violently blocked the entrance to mosques in LA to protest the massacres of Sudanese by the Arab RSF militias rather than synagogues

If bullets had been fired through the glass doors of Sikh temples around Canada rather than synagogues and Jewish schools

If a boycott list was circulated of all Chinese restaurants in Montreal to hold them “accountable” for the treatment of Uyghurs in China rather than a list of all Jewish-owned restaurants

If gravestones at African Burial Grounds were defaced to protest recent Nigerian army massacres rather than Jewish gravestones being toppled and daubed with red paint and swastikas

If Alvin Bragg decided to release a group of Proud Boys who occupied and vandalized Columbia’s Hamilton Hall while chanting racist rhymes rather than dropping all charges against anti-Israel rioters

If university administrators negotiated with and acceded to the demands of those same Proud Boys before granting them blanket amnesties rather than doing so for the anti-Israel encampment participants

If Columbia deans kept their jobs after sending dismissive text messages belittling Black students traumatized by the George Floyd murder rather than Jewish students concerned about their safety

If professors were not disciplined for saying they were exhilarated and energized by the murder of babies and rape of women in Rwanda rather than Israel

If White Nationalist protesters screamed at Black Americans to go back to Africa and that they wished slavery still existed rather than pro-Hamas protesters telling Jewish Americans to go back to Europe and wishing that Hitler was still around to finish the job

If a Madrid nightclub was filled with a band and revelers chanting “Bomb Dearborn” rather than “Bomb Tel Aviv”

If a book club at Chicago store City Lit Books boycotted a work by a pro-Palestinian Muslim author to ensure she did not receive any "monetary support" rather than an accused Zionist

If Black Olympians received death threats in the form of invitations to their own upcoming funerals rather than Israeli athletes

If the Democratic Socialists of America withdrew their endorsement of AOC for the sin of having participated in a panel on anti-Asian hate rather than a panel on anti-Semitism

The tepid response to the alarming outbreak of anti-Semitism is yet another glaring double standard applied to the Jewish people and itself a form of anti-Semitism.
