When it comes to fighting mis- and disinformation, we're no longer living in the halcyon days of 2021.
Attempts to study, understand and just occasionally curtail the spread 'fake news' have come under ferocious attack by a lose-knit coalition of anti-establishment types.
Several researchers that I spoke to raised doubts about their ability to continue doing this work after facing death threats, legal subpoenas and a steady torrent of online abuse for just doing their jobs.
While the counteroffensive against the "censors" began in the US, recent months have seen it bleed into fringe communities around word. The end result - at least in my opinion - is that we know less about the spread of mis- and disinformation than ever before.
