Danielle Feinberg is an accomplished professional with a rich background in computer science, visual effects, and animation. She holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard University and is a former member of the Harvard Board of Overseers. I am honored to have been nominated by Harvard to run for the Board of Overseers. Below is a bit about why I’m both thrilled and ready to take on this role during these difficult times. Harvard is at a crossroads and needs voices that can manage a wide range of constituencies. Over 27+ years at Pixar, I have built expertise in managing and participating in large groups of people from all kinds of backgrounds and personalities to produce impactful, boundary-pushing and successful products for a large organization. I believe this experience is directly applicable to a position on the Board of Overseers. I love a challenge. From the moment I set foot on the Harvard campus with a goal to make it as a woman in computer science, I have been pushing against tradition. This is not a time when we can go along with the status quo. Harvard is under attack, perhaps deservedly so, but I want to be a voice for change. I value others’ opinions. I have my own opinions and ideas, but I always want to hear from others so we can find the best direction. The best ideas can be left unspoken by someone feeling marginalized, intimidated or not good enough, which is why I always look to bring ease, belonging, and safety to any group I speak with or am a part of. I deeply value diversity of all kinds—not just because I have been an outlier as a math-and-science-loving female or because I married a woman, but because I prioritize understanding other peoples’ positions and experiences. I speak up for those who can’t and do so to unite people, not divide them. The polarization and anger we live with in current times are particularly troubling, but Harvard can play a role in helping to bring us back together. Harvard has made so many things possible for me – the mettle to believe, as just one person, that I could help shift the numbers of girls in computer science and STEM, the moxie to take on a position without pause at Pixar that a woman hadn’t held in 20 years, and the courage to have my 6-month-old twins and wife featured in a documentary playing on Disney+ for all the world to see. I am incredibly grateful to Harvard for the education it provided me, the amazing experiences and the strength it fostered in me to do more than I ever dreamed was possible. Harvard graduates go on to have tremendous influence in the world. If I am elected to the Board, I will help ensure that influence will be something we can all be proud of.
