Born on May 18, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, McDaniel moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee in 1973. She pursued her education at Volunteer State Community College and later at Middle Tennessee State University, where she began studying pottery under Lena Lucas at the Metro Parks Centennial Art Center in Nashville in 1982.12
