My first month at the Department of Health and Social Care was a busy one! Really proud of my team for their hard work getting £2.4m of grant funding out the door and into the pockets of thirteen amazing charities which have been doing critical work to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 on disabled people and their families.
Today I leave the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, after the two most rewarding, challenging and inspiring years of my life.
I will never cease to be amazed by the dedication and expertise of the FCDO’s civil servants. Every team I’ve worked with, every event I’ve been a part of organising, and every project I’ve seen delivered has been an absolute privilege. It would be easy to lose sight of the rich history and grandeur of this institution, but each day that I stepped into the beautiful entrance of the Foreign Office on King Charles Street filled me with a new sense of awe and purpose. More recently, during the months I’ve spent logging into work from my living room, collaborating with the most incredible colleagues on some of the world’s most pressing issues has been just as motivating.
So it is with sadness that I say farewell, in the hopes that one day I’ll return. But in the meantime I could not be more excited to be joining the Department of Health and Social Care to lead their Disabilities Policy team. I have a lot to learn, a great deal to get done, and I’m ready to get started!
