Highlights
I sat down with Christiane Amanpour to discuss the interwoven legacies of social justice and philanthropy during my 11-year Ford Foundation tenure. I remain inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for philanthropy, which challenges us not “to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.” As the foundation prepares for a transition in leadership, it is my hope that by elevating and amplifying the voices of people and movements at the margins of society, we make Dr. King’s vision a reality—and continue to move from #GenerosityToJustice.
I am incredibly humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity and privilege to serve the Ford Foundation over these past 11 years. I will be departing in 2025, and our Board of Trustees will conduct the search for a new president. I spoke with The New York Times about our efforts to address the societal drivers of #inequality, my belief that the Ford Foundation is in the business of hope, and its future in pursuing a more just and equitable world.
