Highlights
I enjoyed enjoyed speaking about CCM/RPM/AI at Benesch's 4th Annual Nephrology & Dialysis Conference. The team at Benesch: Jason Greis, Scott Downing, Nesko Radovic put together a great event with a fantastic group of nephrology leaders & informative panel discussions. And thank you to Lauri Cooper and Kathrin Zaki for hosting a great panel and inviting me!
Interesting, but not surprising, findings from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) re: ACO performance:
- ACOs led by independent physician groups and ACOs with a higher proportion of PCPs generated more shared savings
- Hospital-led ACOs have conflicting incentives when it comes to shared savings. Hospitals have higher fixed costs and reducing hospital admissions hurts their ability to cover their fixed cost base
- Providers, especially small & rural providers, continue to find it difficult to fund the resources necessary to participate and succeed in ACO arrangements
For those of you leading hospital-led ACOs, how do you balance the conflicting FFS & shared savings goals?
