Can I tell you a story?
Depending on who just asked you that question, you either just sighed inside or got excited.
Over the last 18 months, my story development and telling skills have been put to the test. How do you answer the following and explain to team members, talented candidates, investors, board members, partners, customers, prospects, family and friends:
- What's digital fax?
- Why does it still exist?
- How can we leverage it as a platform to let healthcare providers and staff regain their time and allow them to focus on patients vs. paperwork?
- Why do it together at Biscom, serving tremendous clients while nurturing, transforming and innovating most aspects of 35 year old software company?
- How it will be challenging yet a rewarding and fun?
Never being much of a "fake until you make it" type with too many battle scars from solo attempts, I looked for help and have been super fortunate to find it in Story As, Adam Davidson and Simon Greenwold.
Biscom engaged with Story As (short for Story As A Service) to accomplish two key things: elevate the existing company story in order to be seen as a strategic asset rather than a mere utility, and b) improve the telling of that story internally and externally.
During our collaboration, we worked together for about six weeks to hone the strategic story of Biscom and focused on how that story should be told to the various Biscom audiences. Story As likes to create a kernel with its partners during this first engagement, and working on the presentation for an upcoming investor meeting was an awesome way to start our partnership.
Our needs were pretty straightforward -- Biscom needed to more clearly explain the company's strategy and how recent successes were representative of our rejuvenated story. We worked together with Story As on that new storyline and created reusable assets. Story As (Adam and Simon) also worked with me and our head of sales on how to reinforce these key themes in the pitch deck and sales enablement tools.
The work we did with Story As was critical to helping us align our stakeholders, rallying our team behind winning messages and develop confident and engaging story tellers throughout the organization.
If I asked you now if I could tell you a story, I am hoping I get more excited thumbs up, less sighs/thumbs down and more chances to show off the upgraded skills. If you or your company needs help clarifying its core story and amplifying how it is told, I'd highly recommend you reach out to Adam and Simon at Story As ([email protected]).
James Andrews, our Head of Product and I will be in Chicago next week at #HIMSS23 and looking forward to connecting with old colleagues, meeting new fellow healthcare professionals and sharing Biscom's secure communications and workflow automation innovations. If you're curious about solving unstructured data, inefficient document workflows and unreliable communications challenges between your fellow provider and payor organizations, let's meet-up!
