Highlights
Good morning all! It’s been nearly 3 weeks since our move home to the farm in New Brunswick. We are now through our 14 days in quarantine and are getting re-settled, both at home and in the #community. This morning is a chilly -19c and we were joined by #wildturkeys who were pleased to find the newly placed bird feeders and feed. Calves will begin arriving early in the new year. I am providing my updated contact [email protected] and 506-323-1158 (c). I also plan to further update my LinkedIn account in the coming weeks. Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful Christmas and Hanukkah, as well as a safe and prosperous 2021.
As my posting in New England is quickly coming to an end, I have been reflecting on my time here and asking myself what are my most important takeaways. I will avoid the current state of Canada-US relations and political climate. There will be another time to discuss and debate such things. During my time here, the fundamental, foundational principle that has been reinforced time and again is that “relationships still matter”. I have found in today’s complex and often contentious world, Diplomacy is as important, if not more relevant than ever. As a still recovering politician, I have always believed that “politics” in its most basic sense is about people and the relationships you form. In New England, I have been blessed to experience this time and again. To accomplish your goals, the importance of strong relationships built on trust, understanding, finding common ground, good will, collaboration and compromise cannot be overstated. These are not just words, but intentional actions between parties. I want to thank New England’s political leaders and their teams, the Diplomatic Corps, business leaders and their organizations, academics and researchers, NGO’s and community-based organizations for showing me that by working together, much can be accomplished to benefit all.
