David Antonioli

Chief Executive Officer at Verra

David Antonioli is a strategic advisor with a strong focus on utilizing market mechanisms to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development. He has a wealth of experience working under major international agreements such as the Montreal Protocol, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement, collaborating with various stakeholders including the private sector, governments, NGOs, and philanthropies.

From 2008 to 2023, David served as the Chief Executive Officer of Verra, leading its expansion into a prominent player in the voluntary carbon market and setting standards for environmental markets. Under his leadership, Verra diversified its certification programs beyond carbon to encompass sustainable development and combat plastic pollution.

Prior to his role at Verra, David was involved in developing landfill gas-to-energy projects on a global scale through a joint venture between EcoSecurities and Biogas Technology. He also played a crucial role in establishing infrastructure for the voluntary carbon market at EcoSecurities.

David kickstarted his international career at ICF Consulting, contributing to projects focused on ozone-depleting refrigerant recovery, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory development in Latin America, and verifying emission reductions of early GHG projects. He later became the Global Climate Change Advisor for Mexico at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), overseeing initiatives related to energy and forest project baselines.

David Antonioli holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and American Studies from Princeton University, as well as a Master's in Public Policy (specializing in Environmental Policy and Sustainable Development) from Harvard Kennedy School. He remains actively involved in environmental and developmental issues, residing in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife and two children.
