Highlights
Tremendously proud of the Age of Learning team for our commitment to creating ground-breaking, innovative products in early & elementary education!
My son, Ethan, started playing My Math Academy (as a "beta" user) when he was 5 years old. His Kindergarten teacher asked what we were doing with him outside of school (was there a teacher in the family, did he attend Kumon, etc.) as his conceptual understanding of math was quite advanced. Almost sheepishly, I admitted not much...but that he enjoyed playing My Math Academy a few times a week. By the end of the school year, Ethan was adding and subtracting three digit numbers, generally considered a 3rd grade skill. And best of all, he really seemed to enjoy (dare I say, even like??) math!
These results never felt unique or atypical. Other parents of beta users had similar experiences...and why not? An incredible amount of investment in the form of academic research, learning engineering, design iteration, data & analytics has gone into creating My Math Academy. Its a not a "drill and kill" program. Its a well architected, highly engaging, instructional solution designed to teach conceptual understanding, multiple layers of formative feedback, supports growth mindset, etc. etc. It shouldn't be surprising to get results like Harlingen School District -- going from a "norm" of 80% of students below proficiency on state standards to 98% of students being on-track or better in a single year -- but it is. Its game-changing. For some of these kids, it might even be life-changing.
When I joined Age of Learning four years ago, it was motivated by the promise/potential of EdTech to create scalable learning solutions that work for all children regardless of socio-economic status, that provide the foundational skills needed to thrive inside the classroom, and ultimately give all kids more choices and options later in life. My Math Academy is a huge step forward, ever closer to fulfilling on that promise.
Interested in the future of Early Childhood Education? Tomorrow (6/17), my friend and colleague, Sunil Gunderia is hosting a panel of educators, designers, and learning scientists to discuss new approaches to addressing equity issues in ECE using mastery-based, technology-driven solutions. Welcome all to attend this interesting and informative discussion!
