Matthew Desmond's book, "Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City," offers a deep dive into the devastating impact of #eviction on low-income families in Milwaukee (https://lnkd.in/e_Ur7Wmu). In it, Desmond reveals that eviction isn't just a symptom of poverty but a significant cause, fueling a relentless cycle of instability and hardship. A home isn't merely a physical structure; it's essential for a person's well-being, stability, and security.

This powerful narrative sheds light on the vicious cycle of poverty, eviction, and #homelessness—a story that resonates far beyond Milwaukee, affecting cities and towns nationwide. With housing costs soaring, more families find themselves unable to afford a place to live.

Desmond illustrates how losing a home disrupts every aspect of life, from health and job stability to children's education. The book shows how the housing market often exploits the poor, leading to widespread #housing insecurity.

"Evicted" is a must-read for anyone wanting to understand the complex nature of homelessness. Those sleeping under bridges or in tents are just the visible part of a much larger issue. Hundreds of thousands of Americans experience homelessness out of sight.

We can solve this problem by creating more affordable housing and providing greater support for struggling families. Let's find the will to make these changes happen. We can and must do better.

#WellnessWednesday: The United States faces a significant #MaternalMortality crisis, with the highest rate of maternal deaths among high-income nations. Women of color experience the highest maternal mortality rates within the U.S., and over 80% of these deaths are likely preventable. Several high-income countries have virtually eliminated maternal deaths through supportive policies and systems during the perinatal period. Policymakers and health care leaders in the U.S. can learn from these countries to address the crisis. We can and must do better.
