Getting old is a privilege and not a right.

When I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2019, the first thing that I did was to Google life expectancy statistics (don't do that, by the way), and was dismayed to see that all the survival curves for my diagnosis hit zero three or six months after diagnosis.

I cried and prayed to God, begging for the impossible - to please let me at least live to 50, so that my very young children would grow old enough to at least retain some memories of me.

Anyway, today I reached the impossible -- it's my 50th birthday. And I'm doing great actually and am so happy. And my kids know me well. And I'm cancer-free. And I plan to live forever. And thanks in part to innovation, people with this diagnosis now live long lives.

And I feel privileged to be old, and look forward to reaching more milestones in life. It's much preferable to the alternative.
