When I first felt a lump in my neck in April, I braced myself for a Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) diagnosis. I knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park, but I felt knowledgeable about what I’d be confronting after talking to family and friends. I was wrong.
In May, I was diagnosed with peripheral t cell lymphoma (PTCL). Nobody seemed to know much about this rare lymphoma, and while Google led me to great resources, I wanted to talk to somebody with PTCL who could help counsel me through this journey.
As some of you know, my twin sister Stephanie Lieber is the Executive Director of Imerman Angels. Imerman Angels matches and connects cancer patients with mentor angels “whose life experience and cancer story is much the same as theirs.” For a variety of reasons, I wasn’t so sure it would be possible to do this for me. But Imerman Angels somehow connected me with a 40 something father of two children from Chicago who was undergoing treatment for PTCL. Suffice it to say that he has been a godsend.
Over the past four months, so many of you have asked what you can do to help, and I often haven’t had a great answer. But now I do. In less than a month, my brother Ron Lieber (He/Daddy/Abba) is going to run the New York City marathon in my honor. He is doing so as part of the Imerman Angels team, and we are going to break the all-time fundraising record of $36,000.

I highly recommend this Lawfare piece from Matt Perault and Samm Sacks, which describes the concrete protocols TikTok is implementing to address these concerns.
