Highlights
It's now been 3 months since our #GenAI at the Edge Virtual Forum - and on the eve of tinyML Foundation #EMEA Innovation Forum - I figured this was the perfect time to reflect on what's new and exciting for Generative AI at the Edge:
🧠 Enter the #SLM (Small Language Models): This one obviously affects the edge. Models like Gemma 2B, Phi-3 and tinyllama are still much bigger than your average edge AI model, but through advanced optimizations, deep learning compilers and AI accelerators, pathways to run SLMs at the edge are emerging.
🛠 Evolution of #RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation): Why does it affect the edge? Because together, edge AI + RAG is a viable way to preserve data privacy and keep AI systems accurate. Cohere is leading the charge here with the release of their Command R+ models which has some RAG functionality built in.
💻 Emergence of #AIPCs: This feels like the current killer app for Gen AI. PCs, unlike a lot of the quirky AI-first hardware to date, is ergonomic, inherently multimodal and a portal for non-developers to access foundation models.
While generative AI still has a long way to go to be "tiny", it's happening. The economic and environmental pressures are too strong and there is simply to much at stake. Good thing there are bunch of super smart people gathering in Milan this week to work on this!!😁

Another year, another #tinyML summit!
The agenda is action packed, as usual. It's been excellent to reconnect and make new connections already in the world of #AI at the edge. More to come!
