Highlights
Have you ever watched the movie, "Yes Man" starring Jim Carrey?
It follows a fellow, who, for most of his life, had his back turned to opportunity by always saying, "no!".
Then one day, he turned that "no" into a "yes" and his life was transformed.
I previously had that kind of mentality, and a similar experience made me change my mind as well.
The power of "yes" and the surrounding positivity around it comes from an abundance mindset.
Whether you are job searching, seeking out vacation ideas, or other big decisions.
All of which, of course, needs to come in moderation.
An abundance mindset combined with a calculated risk approach provides you with two important life tools:
- An open door which allows amazing opportunities to fall in
- A boundary in your mind of exactly how far you are going to commit
This gives you flexibility to explore things you might not have considered before while limiting how much it might end up costing you.
I've found that by using this approach, I can experiment with new ideas in my business without dumping a lot of resources into it.
If things pan out to be very promising, that tells me this might be worth investing a little more.
Conversely, if everything goes south, you are wiser and can put your resources elsewhere that offer better return.
Always remember: A closed door shuts out opportunity so nothing can get in. An open door leaves the world open to you for possibilities and learning.
You can't get any richer than that.
Please please please, for the love of Pete, please do NOT lump all of your jobs under the most recent (and highest job title).
You haven't been the Director for the ENTIRE time of your career at the company.
You have worked your way up. And employers LOVE seeing people who are valued assets in that company.
Don't forget to tell this part of your story- that you were promoted.
Otherwise, if an employer calls to verify your job title and dates worked, and you have "stretched" your time in the higher-titled job, you aren't telling the truth...
