Dear friends this is a Burqa. I own one and I wore one. I was pondering today that an entire generation of women did not have to wear this. As I was pondering what this was like I thought of The Lord of the Rings when the cloak made Frodo invisible. That is what the Burqa does it makes women invisible. It silences them. Makes them not count. Just wearing one makes you feel inferior and inadequate. It is psychological warfare! When wearing one women have so many falls and accidents because the very small mesh opening does not allow for full peripheral vision. So many women are hit by cars fall into oncoming traffic because they missed a curb. However the penalty for not wearing one is horrific.
It seems like a waste of time, money and lives over the last 20 years but as I ponder and process I believe the generation of women and youth who were educated all the way to and through college. The training received was not wasted. It did not fall on deaf ears. Some freedom was experienced and tasted, that cannot be forgotten.
Education is power and as I pray for our Afghan friends the 65% of the country who are under 25 years old the future is now in their hands.
I do not believe all is lost. I can’t believe that although my heart is broken for them their fight continues. 💔💔💔
As much as I love NYC there may be so much truth here. I pray NYC will come back eventually but those that love it will have to make some serious decisions to change the trajectory.
