Declan Meehan

Deputy Director of Cara-Friend & Chairperson of ShoutOut

Declan Meehan serves as the Deputy Director of Cara-Friend, an LGBTQ+ community organization in Northern Ireland. He leads the teams in Belfast and Derry, focusing on strategic development and partnerships to drive growth and increase impact.

With a passion for enhancing the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth in Ireland, Declan co-founded ShoutOut in 2012 and currently holds the position of Chairperson. He is actively involved in the Love Equality campaign for marriage equality in Northern Ireland and serves as Vice-Chair of the Northern Ireland Anti-Bullying Forum.

Having a background in working with charities, NGOs, and community development, Declan also has experience in managing events. He strongly believes in the strength of communities and is dedicated to fostering improvement within them.

Declan Meehan holds an MA in Politics, Politics, International Government, Security Studies, and Counter-Terrorism from Queen's University Belfast, a BA in History from Trinity College Dublin, and has pursued courses in advocating for human and civil rights at institutions like Boston College.

His educational journey includes studies at Loreto Community School in Milford and various roles in different organizations such as The Undergraduate Awards, ShoutOut.ie, Dublin Web Summit, Trocaire, and The University Philosophical Society. Based in Donegal, Declan splits his time between Derry and Belfast.
