Decoteau J. Irby is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago.14 He specializes in equity-focused school leadership and researches how to improve Black children's academic and socio-emotional experiences and outcomes.1

Dr. Irby co-founded Derute Consulting Cooperative in 2013 and created Visioning Black Spaces, a collective of families that pool and invest resources to improve Chicago's Black neighborhoods.2 His research focuses on how equity-focused school leadership can be used to improve Black children and youth's academic achievement and socio-emotional well-being across K-12 educational settings.4
