Highlights
Just Ruth Bader Ginsburg, out here still being an inspiration to all trailblazers. My husband gifted me tickets to see the play RBG: Of Many, One at the Opera House. It was full of both moving and funny moments... imagine sweating on a call about whether you are about to be the second woman ever appointed to the US Supreme Court, but you have to wait for Bill Clinton to finish watching a basketball game first! There's another particular moment I keep thinking of that feels closer to home. It's when RBG holds a little celebration for her granddaughter Clara's birthday, at the Supreme Court no less. She invites young Clara and her friends to sit at the bench and imagine themselves there one day as a judge. It's so close to the heart of the mission of Next Generation Construction (NexGen). Gender stereotypes start to seep in early. Every time we do a school visit and show young girls examples of real women working in rewarding and interesting jobs in construction, it creates an opportunity for those girls to imagine a different future, one they may never have thought of before.
We might not be quite as inspirational as RBG but the feedback we're getting from our school outreach sessions tells us we're on the right track. If you'd like us to run a session at your school (or your children's school), or if you'd like to join us as an industry ambassador, connect with me here on LinkedIn or email: [email protected] And if you get a chance, grab a ticket to RBG: Of One, Many - it's the final week of shows at the Sydney Opera House. Did I mention it's a one-woman show? Heather Mitchell is outstanding in the titular role.

With NRL season kicking off on the same weekend as Mardi Gras, it seems the perfect moment to re-up this great program that #Roosters coach Trent Robinson presents in collaboration with Allianz Australia. If you call yourself an ally, this is an easy way to show you’re an ally. And if you don’t understand what any of the fuss is about, good news, this is perfect for you too! It’s conversational, genuinely interesting and will only take 20mins of your time.
