Derrick Pitts is a highly accomplished individual in the field of astronomy, with a strong educational background and extensive experience in various prominent organizations. He holds a Doctor of Science in Astronomy from Rowan University College of Mathematics and Science, as well as honorary degrees from LaSalle University and has studied at St. Lawrence University.

Currently, Derrick Pitts serves as the Chief Astronomer and Planetarium Programs Director at The Franklin Institute, where he further enriches his impressive career. Previously, he held key roles at renowned institutions like the Thirty Meter Telescope as their Science Museum, Planetarium, Urban Outreach Advisor, and at NASA as a Solar System Ambassador.

Furthermore, Derrick Pitts has contributed significantly to the field of astronomy through various roles such as being the Chair of the Board Committee on Academic Affairs at St. Lawrence University, an Astrobiology Ambassador at NASA/UNCFSP, and a National Spokesperson for the International Year of Astronomy 2009 under the International Astronomical Union.
