Highlights
In today's episode, I had the amazing opportunity to chat with Horst Schulze, the legendary co-founder of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, and founder of Capella Hotel Group.
Horst shared a really interesting experience he had while being guided by an exceptional head waiter who had a profound impact on his perspective of service.
Right from the start, this mentor set the tone by instilling discipline, setting rules, and having high expectations. With a simple sentence, "Be here at 7:00 am sharp, if I meant 7:01, I would tell you", he laid the foundation that completely transformed Horst's approach.
As a dishwasher and floor cleaner, Horst didn’t initially understand how these tasks were connected to excellence. But over time, he realized that excellence doesn’t happen by luck; it comes about through high intent and dedicated hard work.
His mindset shifted from simply performing his duties to striving for exceptional outcomes in everything he did.
He learned that his work went beyond the basic functions of the job. It was about creating an environment where guests felt truly special. Every interaction had a purpose, aiming for something greater.
His role wasn't just serving food, dishwashing or cleaning; it was about creating unforgettable experiences.
Now, let me ask you a question: Are you satisfied with just doing your job, or are you willing and ready to embrace your full potential as a person with endless possibilities?
Let's aim for excellence by exceeding expectations not only in our work but in every aspect of our lives.
