Highlights
Creating a strong, distinctive, differentiated brand identity as a generative AI startup was a challenge. We just launched the new Invoke, and I think the team nailed this one. Some of the key decisions we made:
🎨 Putting creatives first. When we talked with professional creatives, the first thing we heard regardless of industry was that generative AI felt threatening and like something that would replace them. We wanted to build a brand around the idea of creatives owning their creative power and that’s reflected everywhere: from the copy to the decisions we made on pricing & packaging to the business decision to continue to offer Invoke for free, openly licensed to creatives. 📽 Showing what's possible with strong visuals. Videos showing practical use cases are more powerful than flowery, grandiose language. Lady Gaga can call herself "brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before" but for the rest of us, we need to actually demonstrate the potential of generative AI in driving business value. We created use case videos for each of your core customer segments and will continue to create these as we get feedback. 👾 Dropping "AI" from the official brand name. Having “AI” as part of your offering is quickly becoming the norm and expectation. I think most startups that launched with an "AI" as part of their brand name will quietly be dropping them and moving to .com, just like early 2010s startups started adding vowels back into their names and switching from .ly ;) 💛 Punch up what makes you different! Many generative AI startups transitioned from the web3 boom and as a result, fall into the same color family of gradients, purples, navys, greys. Also, many of them use the same style of grandiose language that we heard from crypto/blockchain startups. We chose a saturated yellow to help us stand out from the pack and chose language that clearly communicated value props: full and complete ownership of your work, models, and IP.
There are so many other fun little details thanks to the incredible work from the team over at Fuzzco.
