When presenting, the Q&A at the end is my favourite part. When a room full of experts, who just learned about the latest design innovations, is bursting with inspired enthusiasm, it results in the most interesting questions – often revealing untapped opportunities and partnership potentials. Earlier this month, I presented our new Packaging Futures 24/25 insights at LUXEPACK NY and a Stylus event at Hearst Tower, and the two questions that resonated most with me were:
- Following the case study of Oatly campaigning for the inclusion of products’ carbon footprints on food and drink #packaging, someone asked whether there’s any programme in place to educate consumers on the daily carbon footprint to strive for, similar to how we all learned about our ideal calorie intake years ago. I don’t think so, but would love to hear if there is?
- Following insights on how to scale sustainable solutions, someone asked whether companies are ready to “collaborate first and compete second”. Luckily, I know of many examples of brands, manufacturers, departments and recyclers who are teaming up to generate change that’s too big to go it alone. I like to think that some new collaborations have sprouted right then and there in that room.
