How many women have you given ‘a seat at the table’ lately?
As a twin mum with two full-time jobs, I'm blessed to have a supportive husband, but many still frown upon expecting support from partners. Raising a family should not remain an unpaid, unsupported job. The same policymakers who perpetuate women-unfriendly legislation often ignore the sacrifices their mothers made enabling them to be who they are today.
For example, In Switzerland, women on maternity leave are paid less than their regular salary, yet they must work until the same retirement age as men. These inequalities limit women's economic contributions. I realize I must be grateful for these measures as many of my sisters have to raise their family with only their bare hands as support.
The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2024 (#gendergap24) highlights the stark reality:
- Economic Participation: Women's workforce involvement needs significant improvement.
- Political Empowerment: Despite progress, it remains the largest gap.
- Educational Attainment: Gains in education must lead to economic opportunities.
- Health and Survival: Continuous efforts are required.
Through UpLink, I support female impact startup entrepreneurs, giving them a seat at the table. Employers must make it easier for women to contribute economically while caring for the next generation. Who else will? #statementnotaquestion
