It’s been an emotional few weeks leading up to today, my last official day at Avenues The World School after 7.5 years - an end that comes much sooner than I would have chosen, due to Avenues’ partial acquisition by a new owner and resulting layoffs of most of our global headquarters team. My most prominent feelings, though, are pride and gratitude. Pride in what we’ve done together to build remarkably innovative and vibrant schools. We created an exemplary culture: stacked with talent, warm and authentic and connected, and united around a shared purpose. Gratitude for the profound learning (about talent, leadership, organizational health, innovation and much more); for the relationships and friendships I & so many others made here; for the opportunity for a simply peak experience, professionally and personally.
This isn’t an Oscar acceptance speech, so I am afraid to start mentioning people I want to thank because I won’t possibly be able to mention everyone who I want to celebrate - but you know who you are. Thank you. I must mention, though: Jeff C. for showing what truly talent-focused leadership looks like. Min Kim: best manager I could possibly ask for. (And great auntie to my kids, too.) Jessica Carey and Hanifa Farooq, of our Recruitment Triumvirate: it’s been an honor learning and growing with you; may the RT re-form and ride again one day!
