Building a Donut: Sustainable Economy by 2070 Earth Day Ever heard of the doughnut economics? I am learning this concept and excited to share with you all. It's a framework for achieving a future that's both ecologically sound and socially just. Imagine a donut: the hole in the center represents the lack of basic needs being met, and the outer crust symbolizes exceeding the Earth's limits. The sweet spot in between is where we thrive - a society where everyone's basic needs are met (no hole) while respecting planetary boundaries (staying within the crust). The ideal place is to be in the green zone shown below in the donut sustainable economy graphic by Kate Raworth.
By 2070's Earth Day, this "donut" future can be a reality. Among others, Siemens Digital Industries is helping pave the way. Our software empowers manufacturers to optimize resources and reduce energy consumption, contributing to a more sustainable future.
But technology is just one piece of the puzzle. For centuries, Kashmir Shaivism, an indigenous wisdom tradition, has offered a pathway for human transformation. It can assist in shifting focus from: Capital Economy to Mission Economy: Moving beyond just profit motive towards a higher purpose. Self-Promotion to Common Good: Prioritizing the well-being of all. Consume and Dump to Circularity: Embracing zero-waste practices.
By combining technological advancements with ancient wisdom like Kashmir Shaivism, we can build a future that nourishes both people and planet. #sustainability #doughnuteconomics #EarthDay #KashmirShaivism #Siemens
