Highlights
Today marks one full year that I’ve been working at Rabble Mill! I’ve had opportunities to develop integrated marketing and communications strategies, build curriculum for youth digital media learning and after-school clubs, film skate videos and even put a couple coats of paint on the walls of our Omaha offices.
The level of support and teamwork I’ve experienced and observed makes me grateful and proud.
This team has a lot on its plate, but we’re making a significant impact on local youth. And we’re supported by an organizational culture that prioritizes a healthy work-life balance.
We have big, big, BIG plans for the future, and our culture of taking care of ourselves and of each other is ultimately what will help us achieve our goals. I have too many friends and family who aren’t fortunate enough to benefit from this type of culture at their place of work. Leaders at these organizations need to understand that when they treat their employees fairly, almost all of their people problems will go away. Mine did.
I am doing the best and most-important work of my life, right now.
If you know me, you know that my career, friendships and skills have been greatly impacted by experiences I have had capturing almost 150 live artist performance videos all over the country during the last 13 years. The things you can learn and do if you only find your passion are immeasurable.
This school year, Audrey Hertel and I have been working with Bay High students to help them develop photography, design and video production skills. Bay High is a focus program partnership with Rabble Mill and Lincoln Public Schools.
Audrey and I learned that the best way to teach students these skills is to put them in a position where they have a reason, a need, to learn about shutter speed, aperture and ISO; or how to work as a team on a production. So, we started Rabble Media Sessions!
These photos are from their production of Mesonjixx (Mary E. Lawson) performing "Jane" at The Bay in Lincoln.
