We are recruiting a new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Irish Refugee Council. My experience both as Chair and as a Board member has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. When I joined the Board 7 years ago, my main motivation was a feeling of helpless. I saw what was unfolding in Syria and wanted to do my part to help the people who were so kind, warm and generous to me during my year in Damascus. If you look at the world and want to make change in your community, I urge you consider at sitting on a Board, it is an extremely important voluntary role for any organisation. The IRC is an incredibly special organisation and I am so proud of the work we do to help defend and protect the rights of some of the most vulnerable people in Ireland. My colleagues on the Board are an exceptional group of individuals whom I learn from constantly and who are now my friends. I have enjoyed getting to know all the wonderful staff who are relentless in their passion and dedication to our service users.
