Don McGowan

Chief Legal Officer and Business Affairs at The Pokémon Company International

Don McGowan is the General Counsel of The Pokémon Company International, Inc., where he manages all business and operational aspects of the Pokémon brand outside of Japan, overseeing significant deals like Pokémon GO and the Legendary Pictures partnership.

Apart from his role at Pokémon, Don is also an adjunct professor of Entertainment Law at the University of Washington and serves on the boards of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Wicked Cool Toys.

Before joining The Pokémon Company International, Don served as the lead attorney for Microsoft Game Studios, handling legal matters related to first-party Microsoft-published video games, licensed products, and merchandising. He also had responsibilities in Marketing and the XNA Developer Tools environment at Microsoft.

Don's professional journey includes stints as a litigator at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt and Stikeman Elliott in Montreal. His expertise spans video games, entertainment, licensed merchandise, branding, M&A, franchising, TV, film, music, books, and publishing.

He holds degrees in Environmental Science, Philosophy, Theology, and Law from McGill University.
