Saw quote from someone:
"when we are also surrounded by people who give their best at work everyday, it makes work rewarding and the more we want to give our best too."
Nowadays, there are lots of people called themselves as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, or Data Engineer with good CV but lacking on the soft skills and basic principles of being a great Data guy such as:
-
Accuracy: seniors in my previous companies told me that 70% of data scientist tasks is actually not doing the fancy state-of-the art modelling, but instead doing the data cleansing, understanding the meaning of each field and its behaviour, table structure, ensure the correctness etc. On the other hand, you don't want to present wrong data to senior management right?
-
Neatness: Two benefits, firstly for people especially non data guy, they will understand your analysis easily. Secondly, for us it will make our way of work become effective and efficient. For example, with good documentation, you will be forced to structure your thoughts, analyses, and eventually faster delivery.
-
Creativity: you don't want to stuck with the long exhausting status quo process, continuous improvement is a must to make our deliverables and end product faster. For instance, think about how to automate your reports, dashboards, scoring pipeline, feature engineering, etc (work smarter).
-
Curiousity: you must be always want to know on why such things happened in order to understand your data thoroughly. (Rule of thumb: do not shy and always assertive when asking the details to the stakeholders, but ensure your question is sharp).
-
Business Acumen and Visioning: lastly, you already have sufficient soft skills on the technical side, but in addition we need to understand the trend and business direction as well. This one to ensure our project or analysis will not be wasted and beneficial to the management.
