Highlights
Many "best of" lists are nothing more than contrived, hokey clickbait. But making a real list at something like Forbes or US News gives a right to brag a bit. I put the Livability lists near that category in terms of legitimate rankings. And #CedarRapids and #IowaCity both have a right to do some bragging with news this week that Cedar Rapids ranks 11th and Iowa City 17th as the best mid-sized Midwestern cities to live in. I especially loved the reasons Livability gave for the Cedar Rapids ranking: inclusivity and innovation. Those might not be attributes people traditionally would have assigned to Cedar Rapids, but objective data used by Livability helps prove this city's intentional efforts on both fronts have made these into strengths. Credit for our progress goes to legions of people and organizations, but I would especially point to the efforts City of Cedar Rapids and Tiffany O'Donnell have made to be a welcoming community with their "welcome is our language" campaign and that our friends at The New Bohemian Innovation Collaborative (NewBoCo) have made on the region's ecosystem related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
