Camden Arkansas International Paper Mill. My dad worked at IP in Camden starting when he was 18. He retired when he was 62 or 63. He had spent 44 or 45 years working there. He had planned to work longer, but the physical stress of the job was getting to be more than he could handle.

I remember how upset it made him when the mill closed in 2001. I also remember when they took down the large smokestack on the mill grounds. Next time I came in town, he wanted to drive me by the location so I could see the smokestack gone. I didn't really get why it seemed to bother him so much.

Well now I'm starting to understand. I've worked at SWA for 23 years next month. The entire time I've had my cube/office in the PDC Data Center. This month, we say goodbye to that building. Not sure of the fate of the physical building. But it is no longer a data center. And it is no longer the location we will have any of our people.

I've spent many great (and not so great) days and nights in that building. I remember the big power outage. I remember the barely working restrooms. I remember the gates constantly getting stuck. I remember numerous car shows, BBQ cookoffs, chili cookoffs, and so many parties in the packing lot. I made a lot of friendships in that building.

Now, I don't go into the office other than a few times a week at most. But it will just be weird, not having that address as my destination when I leave the house. Don't yet know where they'll put us, but I'm not sure it will not measure up to the PDC.
