Director of Bands at University of Texas at Arlington

Dr. Douglas Stotter is the Director of Bands, a Professor of Music, and the Coordinator of the Wind/Percussion Area in the UTA Music Department.12 He conducts the Wind Symphony and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and wind literature.12 He also oversees all aspects of the band program.12

Stotter is active as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator in the United States and internationally, including recent work in China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.12 Before his role at UTA, he was the Assistant Director of Bands at Indiana University for seven years and the Director of Bands at Valdosta State University.12 He has also served as Director of Bands at the University of Missouri-Rolla, Doane College in Nebraska, and Galesburg High School in Illinois.12

Additionally, Stotter's textbook, Methods and Materials for Conducting, was published in 2006 and is used at universities across the country.123 He has contributed to Teaching Music Through Performance in Band and conducted research on Edwin Franko Goldman and the Goldman Band.12 He arranged Ralph Vaughn Williams' Three Dorset Songs for concert band, and it was performed at the Midwest Clinic in 2004. He also arranged Percy Grainger's Sussex Mummer's Christmas Carol.12

Dr. Stotter received degrees in music education from The University of Michigan and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from The University of Iowa.12 He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Conductors Guild, the Music Educators National Conference, and the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), where he serves on the National Executive Board as treasurer.12 He is also an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma chapters at multiple universities.1
