I started Volition Project in 2014 to help brands empower their customers. We show clients how to create win-win dynamics, and we provide brand strategy, customer experience, and product development to make it real.
In the academic world, I teach entrepreneurial students at Harvard to start their own businesses in a way that generates the same kinds of reciprocity through empathy.
In my community, I serve on Arlington’s Human Rights Commission to help build relationships, protect the rights of the individual, and foster the town’s win-win opportunities.
And I occasionally coach individuals to empower their personal brands and careers.
Highlights
Ten years ago, on 4/13, 2014, I publically launched Volition Project! I had made a New Year’s resolution to start doing some work on my own, focused on the purpose of helping brands to better empower their customers. The roadmap from 1/1 to 4/13 went like this:
- I basically had my brand purpose and positioning defined already. An early mantra was, “Brands stand out when they stand up for people.”
- It took the better part of 2 months to develop a name that had available urls and low trademark risk.
- 3/6: Registered the url and started fiddling around with Squarespace.
- 3/7: With online real estate secured, I registered for my EIN and LLC in Massachusetts (proud to be a MA business!).
- I worked on the website and made it public Sunday, 4/13. The next day, Monday, was our first official “business day”.
Today is the first business day of our second decade! We definitely have goals. More on that later.
