I do find myself using "legible" more, but I attribute it to reading James C. Scott's "Seeing Like A State" last year. One of his principal themes is that centralized authority strives to render the environment--and its inhabitants--increasingly "legible" as a precondition for exerting control. A fitting word for a compelling idea, and it's proven very sticky.

Hüsker Dü at the Orpheum in Boston, March 20, 1987. Amy was visiting, and a good friend of ours from high school and his girlfriend were also in town. We talked about going to the show, but decided to go for dinner and hang out instead. In fairness, we had a very fun evening.
