Edwin Gardner

De Chrononauten / Studio Monnik

Edwin Gardner is a futurist and co-founder of De Chrononauten, a small collective that focuses on researching and interpreting our rapidly changing world from historical and futuristic perspectives.13 He was trained as an architect at TU Delft and, along with his partner Christiaan Fruneaux, started Studio Monnik in 2012.12

Gardner and Fruneaux have been researching our era for over ten years, developing the Atlas of the Long Now, which examines current events through the lens of great history, the long now, and the deep future.34 They created the World Tree model, a historical-futuristic framework for developing credible future scenarios.2

As part of De Chrononauten, Gardner works on projects that explore trust and democracy in the digital age, including a fellowship with Designing Cities for All (DCFA) where they examine the implications of the online and electronic era on public domain, culture, and governance.4 Their goal is to make their societal analyses, future scenarios, and imaginations part of the public debate to inspire long-term thinking.12
