Great insights at #CERAweek - discussing the Energy industry with experts from around the World. Day 1 highlights included a dialogue with #Accenture CEO Julie Sweet about the digital revolution for the industry with #GenAI in the center and what it means for energy companies on cost efficiency, additional opportunities to unlock revenues and talent upskilling. Our Global Energy Industry Leader, John Downie, led a panel on the new strategies of NOCs in #energytransition and their critical role in global supply security and affordability.

I was privileged to participate in several discussions about the challenges for Downstream business in the #decarbonization of the planet. As we all know, the #energytransition is expensive and requires combined efforts and mutual agreement from the industry, governments, communities and regulators, but most important customers. Here are a couple of thoughts from those discussions:

  • The future energy landscape is a multidimensional transition, with different roadmaps and endpoints for different countries. Growing the market for low-carbon products requires an understanding of growing customer needs and ability to scale demand while stimulating supply with financial incentives, for example such as IRA in USA.
  • Localization strategy is essential, as horizontal and vertical integration of different assets and products is essential to make the most of the energy transition. The future energy landscape is an integrated mix of different solutions and transition fuels that depends on the nuances of different markets - biofuels, CCUS enabled low carbon products, hydrogen and ammonia will be in the mix based on competitive and supply chain advantages of each geography.
  • We at #Accenture are also seeing new innovative ways to increase demand of low carbon products that expand beyond the typical realm of ‘make product, market product, sell product. One of our key recommendation is to be proactive, not reactive when it comes to upcoming policy – e.g.growth in voluntary carbon markets. Entering these markets and reaping the benefits requires increasing digital capabilities to track carbon through an organisation’s value chain and build trust with the customers .

All of the above will require think outside current business models – to explore new low-carbon focused, digitally enabled models that engage new types of Partnerships.
