🎧 EP 27: How to Build a Successful Portable Business and Popular Facebook Groups with Lora M.

Lora is, among other things, one of the founders of the Germany-based Women Expat Entrepreneurs Empowered (WE^3) Facebook group which has 2,500 members and counting.

She also supports high-performing lawyers and business professionals primarily in law, IT, finance, accounting, and coaching.

In our conversation we discussed:

🧑‍🎓 How being exchange student in high school lead to her putting down roots Germany

🇺🇸 The native English speakers conundrum when it comes to learning German while working in an international corporate environment

🌎 How multiple international moves prompted her to create a portable business that made use of her strong background in law without actually being a lawyer (international licensing requirements would have made it untenable)

🤝 How marketing ourselves on our backgrounds is effective; people like to buy somebody who they feel like understands their situation

⚙ Why it’s important to try and do ‘all of the things’ when first starting out

🔎 Where she got her first clients

👩‍💻 How and why she founded several successful Facebook groups and the joys and challenges of running them

🛂 Visas versus permanent residency permits

Like many people born before 1985, I really don’t love plastering my face all over the internet. But it must be done.

Doing business online often means that you may never meet your clients face to face.

Potential clients and customers need to get to ‘know, like and trust’ you. For better or for worse, the way humans do that is by looking at each others faces.

Even if you're really handy with an iPhone, nothing NOTHING replaces the quality photographs taken by a professional photographer.

It’s not just about fancy equipment.

A good photographer will see things that you don’t see; how the light reflects against your face, what objects clutter up a frame, when an image needs something in it.

When is the last time you hired a professional photographer to take pictures or portraits of yourself?
