One size fits none....
This sums up the entirety of the commerce tech stack the past 5 years. In each category, software was developed that was supposed to solve problems for all brands/merchants.. but instead is solved problems for none. This is especially true in Referrals + Loyalty.
Case and point..
Generic give $10, get $10 referrals was not a fit for the sporting goods company, COROS. Their team came to us with specific stipulations...
They did not want anyone and everyone to be able to take advantage of referrals. If you weren't a customer before, you were not allowed to complete a referral. Period.
Instead, they had a plan to ensure their program wouldn't be gamified (in a bad way). They would give both the referrer and the referree a free watch band.
However, the referree would only get a free watch band WHEN they buy a watch. This in execution, is actually quite complicated. No other tools on the market were able to do this. Fortunately, Toki is composable enough to accomplish their vision. Toki isn't for everyone. But it is for brands with a clear vision and tactical team.
Hopefully this resonates with someone out there also trying to accomplish something hard...
