Co-Founder, Peoplehood - Co-Founder, SoulCycle

Elizabeth Cutler is a prominent entrepreneur best known for co-founding SoulCycle, a revolutionary fitness brand, and her latest venture, Peoplehood.

Early Career and SoulCycle

Cutler co-founded SoulCycle in 2006 alongside Julie Rice, aiming to create a unique indoor cycling experience that emphasized community and connection. The duo successfully built the brand into a national sensation, growing it to 60 studios across the United States before selling it to Equinox in 2015 for approximately $90 million.123 During her tenure as Co-CEO from 2006 to 2015, Cutler was recognized as one of Goldman Sachs' 100 Builders + Innovators and was featured in Fast Company’s list of the Most Creative People in Business in 2015.34

Peoplehood

In 2023, Cutler and Rice launched Peoplehood, which they describe as a "workout for your relationships." This initiative focuses on creating spaces for guided group conversations to foster deeper connections among participants. Each session, called a "Gather," lasts 60 minutes and is designed to enhance relational skills through active listening and peer support.125 The concept emerged from their observations at SoulCycle, where they noted that while people initially sought physical fitness, they returned for the community aspect.25

Personal Life and Other Ventures

Cutler studied at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she explored Art History and Religious Studies. She has also lived in Telluride, Colorado, before moving to New York City.3 Beyond her entrepreneurial ventures, she serves on the boards of organizations like Crisis Text Line and SHOFCO, which focus on mental health and community development respectively.34

Elizabeth Cutler continues to be an influential figure in the wellness industry, advocating for the importance of human connections in enhancing overall health and well-being.
