Prior to that, she completed her B.A. cum laude in American Studies at the University at Buffalo and continued her studies at the University of Miami.

She has served as an Adjunct Professor at Lehman College and has contributed to online course content at the University of Miami School of Continuing Education. Additionally, she has held positions as an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University and as a Professor in Communication Studies Emerita at the University of Miami. Ellen has also been recognized as the Frances Wolfson Professor of Broadcast Journalism Emerita at the University of Miami.
