The silver lining of ongoing layoffs is this:

They've destroyed the illusion there's a "safe" path to walk.

Whether you've been laid off or are just watching from the sidelines, it's undeniable: you can see people opening up new possibilities for themselves.

Operators are buying businesses. Specialists are going independent. Generalists are becoming creatives.

People are more willing to see the bigger picture of life.

I hate seeing people struggle with layoffs (truly, I've been there).

But people are paying attention and they're smart. These layoffs are greasing the wheel for millions of people to build the courage to chase their dreams.

“I’m sorry for not having the courage to come out as Gay,” Mr. Ryan wrote.

I was really moved by this story.

An 85 year-old man waited until the very end to share his truth.

I don't judge him for it. He had his reasons.

In fact, it takes resilience to carry a secret for so long.

For me, coming out is a powerful metaphor for courage—bringing what's inside of you into the world.

Regardless of who you are, I believe we all have parts of ourselves we keep inside, wanting to express themselves.

I wonder what this man's life could have looked like if he had shared himself more. And I wonder what that would've added to the lives of those around him and to his community.

Can you imagine a different story?

How many of us are holding our own secrets, maybe even from ourselves? What could be possible if we let them out?

Read until the very end.
