Charging for software/SaaS is only getting harder.

That's because building software internally is getting easier - especially with AI.

This challenges the traditional SaaS subscription model.

But there's a catch: aggregating data isn't as easy or cheap as building software...

That's one reason we're seeing a pivot toward to consumption-based pricing.

Companies will charge for access to valuable data that lives inside their software. Software vendors can leverage economies of scale in data acquisition to create obvious benefits for their buyers. Accessing the software (via seat/subscriptions) will be replaced by consuming data inside the software (usage-based).

The bottom line: In the future, you won't pay for software.

You'll pay for the data and insights it provides.

Gen AI is pushing us from a world of segment-driven personalization to a world of 1:1 personalization.

In the past, we grouped customers by shared traits, crafting messages for segments not individuals. But now, AI allows us to tailor content for each individual, at scale.

This is true in sales, marketing, and just about any industry that uses personalization.

The trade-off for sales reps used to be:

  1. Hyper-personalized emails + send low-volume + high-conversion rate = hit goal vs.
  2. Generic emails + send high-volume + low conversion rate = hit goal

AI is revolutionizing how we think about personalization. We can now achieve hyper-personalization at scale.
