This summer, I had the incredible privilege of mentoring two amazing undergraduate students in the lab. Maya Margo Richter is a rising Junior who is transferring from a local community college to Santa Clara University in the Fall, and plans to continue on to a PhD program in Biology. Maya had no previous research experience, and in just 10 weeks, she mastered her project and was able to give an excellent seminar talk that was on par, if not better, than some of the PhD thesis defenses I've seen! Gabriella Meshesha is also a rising Junior at Johns Hopkins University and will study abroad at Oxford this Fall before she plans to continue on to an MD/PhD program in the future. Gabby had some research experience, but had never given a seminar talk or presented a poster before. In her 8 short weeks, she also mastered her project, and even won an award for one of the best posters presented! I am beyond proud of these scientists and cannot wait to see what they choose to do in the future. I am so grateful to the Stanford Community College Outreach Program and the Stanford Summer Research Program/Amgen Scholars Program for supporting these two scientists and making these opportunities possible for all three of us.

I'm looking forward to rejoining the conference scene after a long hiatus (thanks COVID and grad school!). If you're attending #ASV2024, check out my talk on Wednesday afternoon!
