Emeka C. Anen is an accomplished entrepreneur, corporate strategist, and consumer brands and technology innovator with over a decade of experience incubating, scaling, and funding high-growth consumer ventures. Currently, Emeka serves as a Corporate Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at General Mills' G-Works Corporate Venture Studio; in this capacity he spearheads the identification, creation, and investment in high-potential CPG ventures that align with General Mills' strategic goals. G-Works Venture Studio, as a part of General Mills’ Gold Medal Ventures, has deployed over $100MM over the past 5 years.
Emeka is also the Founder and Managing Director of Just A Small Project (JASP), a technology-oriented consumer brands incubator. In this capacity he channels his strength for translating consumer insights and emerging trends into market-disrupting products and services. Under his leadership, JASP successfully incubated and scaled UJUU, a DTC brand house for urban millennial women, to $15MM in annual revenue with over 100,000 customers. His strategic vision enabled him to incubate the business, secure $5MM in outside funding, and recruit executive management in order to establish UJUU as an independent entity. Prior to his work in venture incubation, Emeka sharpened his entrepreneurial acumen as the founder and CEO of THRONE, a pioneering peer-to-peer marketplace for streetwear enthusiasts. For this effort he secured venture capital funding from Comcast Ventures and eBay founder Pierre Omidyar among other firms, and the platform attracted over 500,000 member and topped the Apple App Store, enroute to generating over $19.5MM in GMV.
Before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey, Emeka worked as a management consultant at Huron Consulting Group, focusing on M&A opportunities within the healthcare sector. He holds a BSPH in Health Policy and Management and a BSBA in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a full merit Johnston Scholar in the university’s Honor Program and earned the Benjamin Gilman International Fellowship to fund his post-graduate year studying Mandarin in Shanghai, China.
Outside of work, Emeka is passionate about closing gaps in technology, education and entrepreneurship, actively angel investing and advising technology and consumer startups. As an alumni mentor and cohort advisor for accelerator programs like DreamIT and TechStars Rising Stars, he empowers the next generation of entrepreneurs. His thought leadership has been featured in publications including Black Enterprise, Revolt, CBS, and Inc., and he has held leadership volunteer positions with youth technology exposure and college access programs, including SMASH Academy (Los Angeles), College Bound (DC), and All-Star Code (NYC). Through his work across corporate innovation, consumer insights entrepreneurship, and advisory roles, Emeka continues to pioneer innovative approaches to consumer-centric business development while delivering exceptional results for stakeholders.
