Emelia Benjamin

Associate Provost for Faculty Development at Boston University Medical Campus

Emelia Benjamin is a distinguished cardiovascular genetic epidemiologist with a focus on atrial fibrillation, vascular function, inflammation, and echocardiographic structure and function.

She is a renowned national figure in faculty development, mentoring, and promoting equity in health sciences, holding the position of Associate Provost for Faculty Development at Boston University Medical Campus where she has spearheaded multiple faculty advancement initiatives.

Emelia has provided informal mentorship to hundreds of individuals and formal guidance to over 50 diverse early- and mid-career faculty members.

Her contributions have been recognized with national awards in various areas including research, education, mentoring, and diversity, such as the prestigious Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine's 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Award.

Alongside her expertise in cardiovascular epidemiology and genetic epidemiology, Emelia holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

With a stellar career path, she has held key positions at various organizations including Assistant Provost for Faculty Development, Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology, Director of Echocardiography and Vascular Testing at Framingham Heart Study, and Fellowship roles at ELAM and Boston University School of Medicine.

Her extensive experience also includes serving as Vice Chair of Faculty Development & Diversity, Department of Medicine at Boston University and as a House Officer at Boston City Hospital.
