WIRL: 10 Lessons That Resonated with Me @ Leadership
- Take Stretch Responsibilities – step outside our comfort zone & realize no one has all the answers. Just because you haven't overseen a global supply chain earlier in your career doesn't mean you shouldn't later. However, make sure to acknowledge it, ask smart questions & learn from your team.
- Embrace the Wisdom Shared – by countless C-suite execs., founders, and Board Members this week, which reinforced my long-held belief that 'The grass is greener where you water it.' The underlying message underscores the impossibility of achieving perfect balance. Instead, embrace the imperfections & allow yourself the space to acknowledge that there will be instances where you may miss recitals or, conversely, in-person meetings for significant family events. Strive to do your best in every moment while remaining fully present. 3. Manage Your Energy – a core function of a leader is not only to manage the energy of your team & inspire them about 'why this is possible', but also ensure you are managing your own energy (via nutrition, sleep, exercise, meditation, etc.) — otherwise, you can't lead. 4. Develop the Skills within Your Team – to handle an 'imperfect reality' because change will continue to happen, and the team members best equipped to adapt will thrive. A key question to draw those resisting change is 'Given this is our reality, what can we do?' 5. Compose your Team Wisely – your team is critical in scaling any business. 5 key traits to focus on when hiring or assessing talent include: Agility (perseverance), Accountability (owning failure), Emotional Intelligence, Creativity, and of course, Functional skill. 6. Be Open & Receptive to Feedback – but don’t act on all of it. Sometimes feedback can seem binary, but the world is gray, so pause & ask clarifying questions to ensure which elements of the feedback are critical to driving growth & what might be noise. 7. Show Gratitude & Appreciation – to the people who have supported, challenged, and guided you in your career. Everyone has a choice on how to allocate their time, so ensure that you are grateful & give back to them or future mentees. 8. Be Curious & Receptive – to learning about a new topic or meeting a new person. Both activities require you to put yourself out there & be humble. I have met some of my closest friends at WIRL because I decided to go up & ‘say hi.' I am forever grateful. 9. Embrace the Power of Humor – it can help defuse a situation, used to challenge thought traps, to engage an audience & create connectivity.
- Acknowledge there is a difference between the inner critic you have and more realistic thinking –essentially, stop believing everything that YOU think. Escape your own “thought traps” and learn to reframe and challenge your thinking with data.

Why I believe events are a critical component in creating a high-growth brand
Early in my career, I was fortunate enough to attend the global Leadership Clinique off-site where Kevin Roberts shared his philosophy on creating Lovemarks: the Future Beyond Brands. Two key premises deeply resonated with me and continue to inform my approach as I assist brands in scaling. #1 - Lovemarks are determined by customers, NOT brands #2 - For a brand to survive and thrive, it must create loyalty beyond mere rational need; it must deeply emotionally connect with consumers, inspire them, instill trust, and ultimately foster love.
Hence, as a brand, events represent one of the strongest avenues to connect with consumers and further deepen that emotional bond. For example, at BodyHealth, LLC, before officially launching our new Gary Brecka x Perfect Amino smoothie at Erewhon, we held an event with some of our favorite wellness enthusiasts in LA the day before it went on sale. Our event was highly interactive — we set up a fresh fruit market showcasing all the smoothie ingredients, conducted a breathwork exercise, shared information about amino acids and wellness, and offered four different biohacking experiences for everyone to try.
For us, we're not just a supplement brand; we're your partner on a health journey through life-changing nutrition. We will continue to grow, evolve, and offer new products and services to help you achieve your optimal health and wellness level. Thus, we understand the trust our wellness community places in us and strive to create experiences that further wellness education, unite like-minded individuals through community gatherings, and engage all senses to promote self-care — hence the energy at the event was palpable.
And you know what? It works on multiple levels. Our guests loved the intimate wellness experience, our online sales and in-store sell-through are exceptional, our partners are thrilled, and the passion can be measured in other KPIs as well, from open rates to organic reach. It works because we inspire people, share information about why wellness is crucial to our brand, and demonstrate how to incorporate it more into their lives because we genuinely care about aiding others on their wellness journey.
So, if you're considering hosting an event, consider how you can:
- Inspire your consumers, especially through education
- Engage them with your brand, particularly by appealing to multiple senses
- Foster a community for them
- Develop meaningful trust through actions
- Address what your consumer needs in the world now & always respect their time
Events can not only deliver KPIs but also create lovemark-worthy moments that bring joy to consumers and ignite their passion for your brand & the world beyond.
